Ode to the Wyke Regis WI Coffee Morning
[Nothing stands in our way]
Whatever the weather we are there each month. No truck with holidays, feast days and such. We are dependable, reliable with a welcome for all, on the first Tuesday of every month.
Nothing stands in our way!
Our members, neighbours and guests stream in, keen to get the pick of the cakes. For those who wish to take home a little treat, containers are provided. Our members eagerly volunteer to fulfil the role of their choice. Luckily, while some love to wash up, others to be a waitress or serve. Thank goodness we are such a varied group of women.
Nothing stands in our way!
The morning would not be complete without added extras. Books for escape, Bric-a-Brac for the things you didn’t know you needed!, plus a regular supply of homemade marmalade – even a member’s honey if you come on the right month. News of events and updates from friends all add to the mix.
Nothing stands in our way!
Challenges come in all shapes and sizes. Some believe we don’t charge enough, while for others the size of the cake slices is the key issue. All matters arising are addressed by the committee. The biggest challenge, no water heater - with much relief the new one arrived, how wonderful to have constant hot water.
Nothing stands in our way!
All hands on-deck for clearing, washing up and freezing of spare cakes. Who will take home the table cloths? – who doesn’t love to iron!
So once again when all is clear, the takings counted and doors locked, we can once more utter ‘Nothing stands in the way of the Wyke Regis WI!’
